In the countryside of Monte Sant’Angelo (FG), four hundred meters from the sea, lies Luigi Cafarelli’s farm. It is a small family business, which has produced high quality extra virgin olive oil since 1869. The extra virgin olive oil “Masseria Papone” is produced exclusively from olives harvested in the grounds of the Cafarelli family’s property located in Papone district of Gravaglione, Tre Mariti. The property includes approximately 2000 ancient olive trees of “Ogliarola Gargano” variety. The olive trees are sunny and airy, exposed at noon and protected by the Gargano mountains to the North; the maritime climate favors lush vegetation.
After the harvest, which generally takes place from early October to mid -November, the olives are taken to the mill for the milling stage.
Cold pressing with centrifugal extraction produces an extra virgin olive oil with a very low degree of acidity, green in color with golden highlights, with a delicate fruity aroma, evoking herbaceous flovours. The flavour is sweet, light and smooth with an almond aroma. The extra virgin olive oil “Masseria Papone” is digestible and suitable for all types of cuisine and is especially delicious as a raw dressing on raw, cooked or roasted fish and shellfish.
